Kikuube businesswoman is found dead in bedroom

Police in Kikuube District are investigating circumstances under which a business woman was killed in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

The body of Teopista Kyomuhendo, 50, was found in a pool of blood at her home in Buhimba. It had stab wounds.

According to Albertine Region Police spokesperson John Hakiza, Kyomuhendo's granddaughter woke up at 3am seeking her her help to go answer nature's call only to find her missing.

"The granddaughter found the [bedroom] door wide open and on looking around in another bedroom, she noticed Kyomuhendo lying in a pool of blood and she screamed for help," Hakiza said.

He added that Stephen Omirambe, a relative who was the immediate neighbour, was among the first responders and he confirmed Kyomuhendo was dead.

"Omirambe ran to our nearest police in Buhimba and our police responded. sealed off the crime scene," Hakiza added.

Detectives led the K9 to the scene of crime but Hakiza said they could not find any immediate clue as the scene had already been tampered with.

"However, we ask anyone who have clues to her death to notify police," Hakiza added.

The Kikuube Resident District Commissioner, Amlan Tumusiime, said said Kyomuhendo might have been raped by her killer[s].

"When you look at how the body was lying, with blood coming from her private parts, it looks like she was raped before the rapist chose to also end her life," Tumusiime said.

The District Chairman, Peter Banura, appealed to the locals to stay calm and let police investigate.

"It's very unfortunate to see our strong businesswoman go in that manner, but let's stay calm and we want police to employ all tactics so they can find the people behind the murder of Kyomuhendo," Banura said.

Residents in Buhimba have appealed to police to increase their visibility in the area, saying murder cases are on the rise with the area said to have registered about four cases in the last two months.

"We are now living in fear for sure, we don't know who is killing our people, now in just two months four people have kind been murdered in far most same way," Omirambe said.

"I think it's high time we got more security here."

RDC Tumusiime says plan to put in place an army detach in Buhimba to beef up security is in the offing.

The body of Kyomuhendo was conveyed to Hoima Hospital for a postmortem.
